基本要求
天普大学规定的基本申请条件如下：
学位要求：要求正规大学本科毕业并取得学士学位 (2)
GPA要求：本科GPA尤其是本科高年级GPA要求不低于3.0分 (2)
语言要求：TOEFL要求不低于79分，IELTS要求不低于6.5分，PTE要求不低于53分；均无单项分数要求 (2)
GRE要求：绝大部分专业均需要递交GRE成绩，部分理科递交GRE Subject成绩。商科专业可使用GMAT代替GRE成绩，部分教育学相关专业可使用MAT代替GRE成绩 (2)
申请时间：申请截止时间由各项目决定，多在1月-3月间截止。欲申请奖学金的学生，需在秋季学期12月15日前申请。该校研究生院建议国际学生在项目指定申请截止日期的90天之前申请，以便提高录取以及获得奖学金的几率。
注：不同于本科申请，该校研究生不接受条件录取

2013年秋季学期该校共有37,620名学生入学，其中本科生28,243名，研究生9,377名。对应的国际学生分别为1,108和1,173名，分别占比3.9%和12.5%。 (3)
该校各项目均有大致统一的申请材料要求，具体如下：
完成在线申请表：通过加州州立大学系统申请 (2)
申请费：$55
成绩单：中国学生的成绩单需经中国学位与研究生教育发展中心（CDGDC）或全国高等学校学生信息咨询与就业指导中心（CHESICC）认证递交
GRE/GMAT成绩
TOEFL/IELTS成绩
推荐信：2-3封
资金证明：申请时可无需递交，但录取后必需递交
其他材料：如面试、试镜、个人陈述、个人作品、个人简历、写作样本等，部分专业可能会需要
费用与奖学金
天普大学主要由学生所申请的系所或项目提供，其形式以TA、RA和Fellowship为主。学生在申请时应主动与系里的导师或招生办联系，以期获得由导师或系里提供的RA、TA奖学金。该校奖学金形式均为Merit-based，无需单独申请，自动随Offer发放。一般而言，PhD学生的获奖几率要远远大于硕士学生获得的几率。 (4)
