西北大学（Northwestern University, NU或NWU) 创建于1851年，是一所私立研究型大学，由John Evans*并其他8名律师、商人及卫理公会领导人联合创办。1855年正式授课，1869年开始招收女子学生。如今，西北大学本科生人数共9,914人，研究生人数也达到10,645人。西北大学是全国大学体育协会十大联盟高校（Big Ten Conference）的创会成员，且一直是其中唯一的私立大学。西北大学与国内诸多高校都有合作，如：西北大学与清华大学；西北大学医学院与首都医科大学；西北大学商学院与香港理工大学共同合办的MBA项目等。
工程设计与创新
工程设计与创新（MS in Engineering Design and Innovation，MS-EDI）
本科专业要求最好是工程或与之相近的技术或分析类的专业。仅接收秋季入学。所有在申请截止日期即1月15日之前递交的申请，会在3月中旬是知晓录取结果。招生官一般会在接收到全部申请材料后的3-4周给出录取结果。
西北大学MS-EDI申请者通过研究生院在线申请系统提交申请，申请材料清单及其相关要求如下：

(2) 个人陈述：A Statement of Purpose：尝试在此回答其中任意两个问题：
a) Pick a product that you think is well designed and explain why. Do the same with a product you think is poorly designed.
b) You’ve just finished sketching a new universally accessible kiosk for the London underground. How could you build and test a prototype in one hour?
c) A dental supply company wants to create a new product line targeted toward hygienists in China. What would you do to understand the needs of the user?
d) If you could spend one year solving one problem, what would it be and why?
(3) 个人简历：A professional resume or CV
(4) GRE分数：GRE verbal minimum 157, GRE quantitative 158, and GRE analytical writing 4)
(5) 推荐信：Two letters of recommendation
(6) 高等教育成绩单：Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions attended
(7) writing sample：Electronic submission of past project work.
(8) 托福/雅思成绩单：托福最低分数要求为95分，雅思最低分数要求为7.0分。
注意：
GPA最低要求为3.0。所有上传的作品文件，不大于2.5MB。*(2)
