加州大学河滨分校是加州大学九所成员学府之一,成立于1954年。目前有在校生16,000名,是加州大学10所分校中发展最快的,以其人性化著称。河滨分校设有10个本科专业,50个硕士学位项目以及39个博士学位。因其在服务、教学、科研方面取得的世界瞩目的成就,加州大学河滨分校的教学科研人员被著名的美国科学进步协会接纳为会员的数量曾数次排名美国第一。大学除了农科和植物科学很好之外,数学、统计学和计算机科学也很突出。说到生物医学科学,更是全加州无出其右,最近新设的生物化学工程,学生一样趋之若鹜。据《耶鲁大学日报大学指南》指出,大学的生物、心理学、历史和地质学都不错。河滨分校虽然没有洛杉矶分校或伯克莱分校那么声名响亮,但每年仍有逾万人申请入读,录取率高达74%。

加州大学河滨分校的英语教学机构是全美最大也是设备最完善的语言训练中心之一。是经由州立大学评议会所认可的大学,以杰出的农学研究驰名于世。 1907年在加州会议指导下,成立了柑橘类研究所,当时这个研究所承包了所有南加州农业问题的研究。其后,于1951年经评议会评为合法的教育机构,1954年正式升格为大学。
全校水平最高的农学系,已达世界级的水平,此外动物学、人类学等自然科学自不待言,而本校的政治学也是远近驰名。UCRiverside拥有相当良好的口碑如商学院、文学院、和教育学院都很有名。学校也常为学生举办各类讲座,供该校学生和校外社会人士参与,学校之推广中心,也提供了非常广泛的进修课程,给当地学生和外国学生选读,如密集英语课程(每周上课24小时,程度分为6级,最低入学年龄为15岁)、国际商业英语课程、大学预备课程、英语文教师进修课程、美国文化和会话课程(每周上课15小时,程度分为6级,最低入学年龄为10岁)和各种国际性的专业课程,如人力资源管理、国际营销、跨国财务管理、非营利组织管理、心理谘商辅导等。
