马凯特大学创建于1881年。位于密尔基。是一所学制为4年的综合性大学。学校可授予学士、硕士、博士学位。在校学生人数有12024人，其中研究生3069人(全日制1807人)，学生来自38个国家。教师有1000人(专职567人)，其中453人有博士学位。
马凯特大学是一所四年制私立天主教大学，获《美国新闻与世界报道》评为二级国家级大学，全美学术排名《Academic ReputationRanking》第107，《纽约时报大学指南》则给予它三颗星的学术评分。该校会派员参加在香港举行的“美国大学教育展览”，颇欢迎香港学生申请入读。
据《耶鲁大学日报大学指南》折出，马凯特大学各学院和学科的入学标准都不同，其中以举国知名的物理治疗科选拔最严谨，学生则认为最佳课程是商科、历史、护理和牙科。工科近年来逐渐受学生欢迎，“合作课程”尤其获得好评。还有，大众传播学亦办得很好，尤以广告、公共关系、广播及电子传媒为然。最多学生修读的学科，依次是商科管理(17%)、工程(15%)、大众传播(14%)、社会科学(9朴)、健康科学(8%)。
第一年新生有43%获奖学金，平均每人约3000美元，海外生虽较难取得，但并非无机会。第一二年学生规定必须住宿，大学不设截止申请日期，前一两年有6081人投考，录取人数达4903人。
学校历史
